Alan Brennert è un autore di fiction americano affermato, sceneggiatore e produttore televisivo. Nato nel 1954, Brennert iniziò la sua carriera di sceneggiatore nel 1978, contribuendo alla popolare serie Wonder Woman. Successivamente, lavorò come editor e scrisse sceneggiature per la serie The Buck Rogers, trasmessa sulla NBC.
Brennert è noto soprattutto per i suoi romanzi storici, tra cui Palisades Park, Honolulu e Moloka'i. Moloka'i, pubblicato nel 2006, è stato un enorme successo e ha vinto il premio Bookies 2006 come Libro dell'Anno per il Book Club. Il romanzo, che esplora la vita di una ragazza hawaiana con la lebbra, ha venduto oltre 600.000 copie da quando è stato pubblicato ed è stato anche selezionato come One Book, One San Diego nel 2012.
Oltre al suo successo come romanziere, Brennert ha avuto una carriera di successo in televisione. Ha vinto un Emmy Award e un People's Choice Award per il suo lavoro come scrittore-produttore della serie televisiva L.A. Law. Il suo racconto "Ma Qui" è stato anche insignito di un Nebula Award. L'ultimo romanzo di Brennert, Daughter of Moloka'i, sarà pubblicato da St. Martin's Press il 19 febbraio 2019.
