Bart D. Ehrman è un autorevole studioso e scrittore nel campo degli studi del Nuovo Testamento ed Early Christianity. È nato a Lawrence, Kansas, il 5 ottobre 1955 e è cresciuto in Kansas e Illinois. Ehrman ha frequentato il Wheaton College in Illinois, dove ha conseguito la laurea. Successivamente ha ottenuto la Master of Divinity e il dottorato di ricerca al Princeton Theological Seminary.
Ehrman ha ricoperto la posizione di James A. Gray Distinguished Professor all'Università della Carolina del Nord a Chapel Hill (UNC) dal 1988.
